A’isha Does a Blog!!

Hell Everyone,

This is my first Blog ever. I can’t believe I am even able to do the process to get here!  Let me tell you all a true story.

Some years ago I was happily teaching my beginning belly dance, and among my students was one Terry Kanago, techno-genius. It happened that she decided, unbeknowst to me, that she was going to drag me kicking and screaming into the 20th Century while everyone else was boldly leaping into the 21st. So… she gave me a computer and taught me the basics of how to use it. I immediately fell into hopeless love the moment she hooked me up with the MED Dance List. I was inept, fumbling, all of the things that we techno-virgins tend to be. But Terry was an expert guide and source of consolation and repair whenever  BAD THINGS that I did not understand happened…. and they happened with amazing regularity.

When my first computer folded its hands, mumbled to itself and died, Terry was there to pick up the pieces and take me out, holding my hand ever so gently through the purchasing process, to replace it. Poor Terry. I stalked her every time there was a slight problem because it was all terrifying to me. I would plead, beg with my computer every time it acted up, and then I would finally threaten…”Okay, you asked for it. I’m calling the MEAN babysitter.”. Believe it or not, the computer was actually more scared of  Terry than I was of it, and that phrase often did the trick!

Now it is years later. She has me set up with two Websites, taught me to join forums, taught me to clean my own computer, ( now on # 3… or is it $4??). I can now install stuff on it all by myself. I can hook myself up to Face Book.  And a whole bunch of  thing that once seemed impossible. I can even uninstall programs with ease!!

Periodically Terry springs new technological wonders on me. The other day she called and said, “I’m setting you up a Blog on your site.”

I replied with my usual enthusiasm for this kind of thing,”Yikes!”.

Once again I am entering a new phase of my computerized life in the form of this first Blog entry. From now on the discussions here will center on dance. But today, I want to say a very heartfelt thank you to Terry, for broadening my horizons, for teaching me a new skill, and for being there every single darn time I have the slightest problem with this machine that I have not yet learned to solve by myself. She bit off more than any techno-genius should have to chew when she decided to give me that first c0mputer. I hope she never regrets it!
